What is the best season to travel?

  • December to April is the best season to visit.
    The weather is dry, skies are clear, and hiking conditions are ideal.

  • May to September is still possible, but it can be hot and humid.

  • Avoid heavy rainy days (mainly October–November) as rocks can be slippery.

  • Early morning (5:30 AM – 8:00 AM) is the best time to travel.
    You can enjoy the famous sunrise, cooler weather, fewer crowds, and clearer views of Sigiriya Rock.

  • Late afternoon (4:30 PM – 6:30 PM) is also good for sunset, but it can be warmer and slightly more crowded.

Pidurangala Rock is located about 2 km from Sigiriya town, in Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle.

From Sigiriya Town
  • By tuk-tuk: The easiest and most popular option.
    Takes 5–10 minutes from Sigiriya town.

  • By walking: Possible if you enjoy walking; takes around 30–40 minutes.

  • By bicycle: A convenient and eco-friendly option.

From Major Cities
  • From Dambulla: About 25 minutes by car or tuk-tuk.

  • From Kandy: Around 3 hours by car or bus via Dambulla.

  • From Colombo: Around 4–5 hours by car via Kurunegala or Dambulla.

Public Transport
  • Take a bus to Dambulla, then another bus or tuk-tuk to Sigiriya.

  • From Sigiriya, hire a tuk-tuk to Pidurangala Rock.
