Which time best for visit ?
The dry season from June to September is generally a good period to visit Somawathiya National Park. During this period, wildlife can become easier to observe as animals gather around available water sources. The drier conditions can also make travelling through the park more convenient.

How can we arrive?
Somawathiya National Park can be reached from Polonnaruwa through Sungawila. From Polonnaruwa, visitors can take the road towards Sungawila and continue towards the Somawathiya area. The park can also be approached from the Minneriya side through Higurakgoda and Sungawila
By Bus
From Polonnaruwa, buses or local transport can be used towards Sungawila.
From Sungawila, visitors can arrange local transport to continue towards Somawathiya.
By Train
There is no railway station directly inside Somawathiya National Park.
Visitors can take a train to Polonnaruwa Railway Station and continue the remaining journey by bus, taxi, tuk-tuk or private vehicle.
