Thirukoneswaram Temple, is one of Sri Lanka’s most important and ancient Hindu temples, located on Swami Rock inside Fort Frederick, Trincomalee District. In 1624, during the Portuguese colonial period, the original temple was destroyed, and parts of the temple were damaged. Many artefacts and sculptures were lost during this period. Later, archaeological discoveries and community efforts helped restore the temple, and the present-day Koneswaram Temple continues to serve as an important religious site.
