Overview
Ambuluwawa Biodiversity Complex is a special kind of eco-tourism center as well as a center of faith situated near Gampola, about 25 km from Kandy. Ambuluwawa is situated on a hill that rises over 1,000 meters above sea level. Ambuluwawa is known for its spiral white tower, the views of the surrounding mountains, and a serene atmosphere. From Ambuluwawa, one can get a wonderful view of the Central Highland on a clear day.
This complex encourages religious harmony and the coexistence of religion and nature, where temples of Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity are established in the biodiversity zone. Adventure activities in the location include climbing the narrow spiral staircase of the tower for the views from the top; walking paths are made in the location to encourage similar activities. - During this period, the weather in the Central Highlands is generally drier with clearer skies, making it ideal for climbing the Ambuluwawa Tower and enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Visibility is much better in the dry season, which is important since mist and rain can limit views from the top.
- The rainy season (May to September) brings lush greenery but also frequent mist and slippery paths, which can make climbing the narrow spiral tower more challenging. If visiting during this time, choose a clear day and go early in the morning for the best experience.
