Visiting during the Early Morning provides the safest and most enjoyable hiking experience. During these hours, the weather usually remains clear, offering excellent visibility and cooler temperatures for climbing. How can we arrive?
The mountain range lies approximately 5 to 7 kilometers from the Kandy city center. Therefore, you can easily reach the starting points using different transport methods.
By Bus
Alternatively, you can take a bus heading towards Hanthana from the Kandy clock tower bus stand. Once you get off at the final stop, you must walk a short distance to begin the hike.
By Tuk Tuk
To begin with, hiring a tuk-tuk from Kandy offers a very convenient way to reach the trailheads near the Tea Museum or Peradeniya University. Generally, this scenic ride takes about 20 to 30 minutes.
By Private Vehicle
Lastly, you can drive your vehicle up the winding Hanthana road. Conveniently, you can find parking spaces near the museum or the university grounds.

Primarily, you must wear sturdy hiking shoes and carry plenty of drinking water. Additionally, we highly recommend packing sunscreen, a raincoat, and some salt or leech socks to protect yourself from leeches during the rainy season.
Is camping allowed on the mountains?
Yes, many adventurers enjoy camping on the mountain peaks. Nevertheless, you must obtain proper permission from the Forest Department beforehand. Furthermore, you must strictly avoid lighting campfires near the dry grass to prevent devastating forest fires.
