Overview

This is one of the oldest Protestant churches in Sri Lanka, built by the Dutch in 1755. The special feature of this church is that the floor is made by laying old Dutch gravestones. This building in Galle Fort is a masterpiece of Dutch architecture.

What can we do?

  • The Gravestone Floor: Take a close look at the church floor. It is covered with old Dutch gravestones. This is a very rare sight.
  • The Pulpit: See the pulpit, which is made of precious wood such as ebony, with beautiful carvings.
  • Ancient Organ: There is an old pipe organ brought from Colombo around 1760.
  • Peaceful Atmosphere: This is a place to relax in a very peaceful environment.

Which session is best for travel?

  • Time: Open to tourists from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
  • Tip: On Sundays, morning prayers are held, so it may be difficult to freely explore the inside during those hours. It is best to visit on a weekday.

How long to spend for a visit?

Duration: 20 to 30 minutes is enough to watch this. A place to stop while walking around Galle Fort.

How can we arrive?

  • Location: This is located on the left hand side a few meters after entering the main gate of Galle Fort (Church Street).
  • Entrance Fee: Free entry (donation can be made if desired).
