Makandawa Rainforest Reserve is located across the Kelani River from Kitulgala town, roughly 80 km east of Colombo.
By Bus
Board any main bus traveling along the Colombo–Hatton route (A7 highway) via Avissawella. Get off at Kitulgala Town, followed by a short tuk-tuk ride or walk to the river crossing point.
By Train
Take the main line train from Colombo Fort to Avissawella Railway Station or Hatton Railway Station. From Avissawella, board a direct Hatton-bound bus to Kitulgala town center.
