Ravana Cave
Overview
Situated at an altitude of 4,490 feet above sea level, this cave is believed to be one of the places where King Ravana hid Goddess Sita. There is evidence that this is a man-made tunnel, and according to legends, this tunnel was connected underground to places like the Dowa Temple and Ravana Ella.
What can we do?
- Climbing the Stairs: Climbing the stairs on the mountainside is a small adventure. The views of the surrounding environment are very beautiful.
- Explore the Cave: You can visit the main part of the cave. Although there is a small tunnel inside, going deep into it is not allowed as it can be dangerous.
- Historical Vibes: This is a place associated with the history of King Ravana, so you can experience the ancient mystery of it.
Which session is best for travel?
- Best Time: Morning (8:00 AM - 10:00 AM) is best.
- Why: You have to climb about 650 steps to reach the cave. This can be quite tiring in the afternoon, so the cooler weather in the morning is more convenient.
How long to spend for a visit?
Duration: The entire journey takes about 1 to 1.5 hours (ascent and descent).
How can we arrive?
Location: Located about 2 km from Ella town.
Transport:
Tuk-tuk: From Ella town, take the Rawana Ella road and then the road up the mountain. You can drive to the entrance gate.
From there, the remaining distance (about 500 meters) is on foot along the stairs.
