Which time best for visit ?
The Dry Season from February to July is the best session for traveling to Yala National Park, especially when seeking optimal wildlife sightings. During these dry months, water levels recede, forcing animals out of dense brush toward open waterholes. (Note: Block 1 usually closes annually for maintenance during September and October).
Early Morning (Sunrise / Golden Hour)
Highest chance of spotting leopards and sloth bears, cooler weather, active wildlife, and great photography light
Late Afternoon (Sunset / Golden Hour)
Excellent for elephant sightings near reservoirs, beautiful golden hour light, and pleasant temperatures

Not recommended for safari drives as animals rest in dense shade to avoid intense heat

How can we arrive?
Yala National Park main entrance (Palatupana Gate) is located near Tissamaharama in the Hambantota District.
By Bus
Take a long-distance bus to Tissamaharama Bus Stand (via Matara or Hambantota). From Tissamaharama town, hire an authorized 4x4 safari jeep with a driver to reach the entrance gate (approx. 20 km).
By Train
Board the train to Beliatta Railway Station (the nearest terminal on the southern line). From Beliatta, hire a private taxi or drive via the Southern Expressway extension to Tissamaharama (approx. 1.5 hours).
ByPrivete Vehicle
Drive south via the Southern Expressway (E01) to the Mattala / Hambantota Interchange. Continue along the Hambantota–Tissamaharama main road to reach Palatupana Entrance Gate.
