Overview
Located near the city of Nuwara Eliya, this is a beautiful plain and an Agricultural & Eco Tourism Zone. The main attraction here is the View Point located at the top of the hill. When you go there, you can see a 360-degree view, and this is also known as the "Mini World's End". On a clear day, 9 of the 10 highest mountains in Sri Lanka can be seen from here.

- 360 View Point: From here, you can see the peaks of Piduruthalagala, Single Tree Mountain, Kikiliyamana, Great Western, Conical Hill, Kirigalpottha, Thotupola Mountain, Hakgala and Namunukula.
- Jeep Safari: To visit Sandathenna, you should go in a safari jeep. It is a wonderful experience to see vegetable crops, pastures, and animals like buffaloes and elk/deer during the journey.
- The Drop: The cliff at the top of the mountain offers an experience similar to the end of the world.

Which time best for visit ?
The best time to visit Sandathenna–Moon Plains is early morning, ideally between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM. The weather is cooler, the surroundings are peaceful, and the mountain views are usually clearer before mist and clouds develop later in the morning.
- Travel tip: Check the local weather before leaving because Nuwara Eliya’s conditions can change quickly.
Early Morning (Sunrise / Golden Hour)
Highly recommended for clear panoramic views, soft sunlight, photography and fewer visitors.
Late morning
Suitable, but mist may begin to cover the surrounding mountains.
Midday
Less recommended because clouds, rain and reduced visibility are more likely.
How Can We Arrive at Sandathenna–Moon Plains?
Moon Plains is located a short distance from Nuwara Eliya town. The final section is usually completed by tuk-tuk, taxi, private vehicle, or an approved local jeep.
By Bus
Take a bus to Nuwara Eliya Bus Stand from cities such as Colombo, Kandy, Badulla or Hatton.
From Nuwara Eliya town hire a tuk-tuk or taxi to the Moon Plains entrance. (15-25 min)
By Train
Travel to Nanu Oya Railway Station, then take a bus, taxi or tuk-tuk through Nuwara Eliya to Moon Plains, approximately 30–45 minutes away.

Can we camp at Moon Plains?
Camping is generally not permitted inside the Moon Plains visitor area. Visitors should use an authorised campsite or accommodation nearby and confirm current rules with the entrance office.
Can we go by car?
Yes, you can drive a car to the Moon Plains entrance. However, private vehicles may not be allowed on the internal sightseeing route, where authorised jeeps are commonly used.
Is parking available?
Parking is generally available near the entrance for cars, vans and motorcycles. Availability may be limited during weekends, holidays and busy travel periods.
